| SLAM (SCUBA
Lifesaving and Accident Management) is the ultimate in
SCUBA Lifesaving training. The YMCA SCUBA Program was the first SCUBA
agency to develop this course and it remains the best today. The
classroom will cover the four major areas of SLAM Rescue: Cognizance of
potential SCUBA diving accidents; Awareness of the SCUBA dive rescue situation;
Rescue techniques; and Egress techniques. You will be trained in
the complete management of a diving accident including the recognition
of a victim, the swim and approach, gear removal, in-water artificial respiration,
tows, egress, CPR, and oxygen treatment.
Purpose:

The purpose of the S.L.A.M. course is to introduce the recreational diver
to diver to diver rescue. Course will demonstrate the basic skills necessary
to evaluate and react to diver emergencies.
Pre-Requisites:

Age 15 or older

A minimum of 10 logged dives
-
First aid and CPR certification
-
DAN Emergency Oxygen Provider

Completed medical and liability waiver

This course is sanctioned and certified by Diver’s Alert Network.
This course covers in-depth information of DCI (decompression sickness
and arterial gas embolism) recognition, signs and symptoms, first aid,
treatment, and prevention. You will learn the practical skills and
techniques of oxygen treatment. At the conclusion of the course you
will receive certification.
